Our Traffic & Electrical Maintenance/Snowplow Operator position assist in repairs, revisions, maintenance and installation of all MnDOT Metro traffic signals, roadway lighting, and other electric devices. Additional duties include:
Performing electrical repairs at heights up to 70 feet above the roadway.
Operating aerial equipment, bob cat, trenchers, and cranes.
Performing snow and ice removal operations (further described below).
Conducting daily pre- and post-trip vehicle safety inspections.
Identifying and reporting vehicle deficiencies and performing minor repairs to equipment.
Entering data on a Windows based computer operating system.
*Work overtime, nights, and weekend hours, working outside in all types of weather conditions all year round and working near traffic and heavy construction equipment.
During our snow season, this position will also:
· Maintain roadways for snow and ice control: removes snow from roadways and shoulders; opens and widens roadways of large accumulations of snow; removes snow from rights of way or yards; applies anti-icing and de-icing chemicals on stretches of highway under slippery conditions; removes frozen ice, and material from culverts; prepares and inspects winter equipment, maintains snowplow equipment, cutting edges and sanders; and cleans equipment post storm.
· Performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup including machine or hand sweeping of bridges, guardrails, sidewalks, crossovers, medians, ramps, and roadways.
*The incumbent is required to be immediately accessible to a phone and be able to report to work within one (1) hour of being called.

Here are the Minimum Qualifications:
Exam Part 1:
One year of experience performing any of the following: traffic engineering; sign installation and maintenance; roadway and roadside maintenance; road construction; driving commercial vehicles; operating heavy equipment; farm experience; snow/ice operations; etc.
A valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no air brake restriction.
Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
Exam Part 2:
Receipt of a passing score of Level 4 or higher on the math portion of the computerized test and Level 4 or higher on the computerized reading test. [The job offer is contingent on passing a basic math and reading test.] Applicants meeting Exam Part 1 will be contacted to test and may select a test site based on their geographic availability.
