Description
In support of Minnesota’s largest county, Communications is dedicated to effectively connecting Hennepin County’s people with the programs, services and information they need via county web channels. The Principal Web Communication Specialist’s primary responsibility is to lead content strategy and priority web projects executed in the county’s web content management system (Sitecore). They will incorporate best practices around site architecture, information organization, plain language, and accessibility standards into the strategy. In addition, the candidate must be capable of providing high-level support (including training as necessary) to county communicators and leaders to meet program and service area objectives; writing and editing web pages for accuracy, clarity and consistency.
Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed on-site at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 and remote as job duties require. Work hours will typically be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with occasional evenings and/or weekends. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

· Lead web content strategy and development in partnership with communication colleagues and program area leaders to connect residents to programs, services, and information.
· Ensure that content across multiple Hennepin County public sites (including Hennepin.us, soon to be HennepinCounty.gov) is error-free and meets brand, accessibility, plain language, and customer service standards.
· Gather, interpret, and leverage web analytics to identify trends and provide data-driven communication recommendations.
· Act as a leading expert in use of the county’s enterprise content management system (Sitecore) for updating content, supporting SEO, and assisting colleagues to achieve service and program area goals.
· Apply HTML knowledge and experience to align with brand guidelines and web content standards.
· Leading content strategy efforts and setting work direction for the team.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Seven years or more of related professional experience in strategic communications supporting a broad range of programs, projects, and services.
o Two years or more of college and five years or more of related professional experience in strategic communications supporting a broad range of programs, projects, and services.
o Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, communications, mass communications, marketing, media studies, graphic design, photojournalist, telecommunications, visual communications, public administration, and three years or more of related professional experience in strategic communications supporting a broad range of programs, projects, and services.

· Experience:
o Leading web content strategy and priority web communication projects for a large organization.
o Providing top-tier relationship and service support to program area directors and communication leaders.
o Managing, optimizing, and editing content using a robust content management system such as Sitecore.
o Writing and editing digitally focused content in plain language, within an organizational brand.
o Interpreting and leveraging web analytics to develop data-driven content and communication recommendations.
o Implementing best practices for UX/UI, information architecture, and accessibility.
o Leading, providing direction to, and/or supervising a team.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
