The Financial Analysis and Accounting (FA&A) division of the Health and Human Services department (HHS) is seeking an Accountant for the Accounting, Audit, and Reporting unit. This area provides overall accounting, audit, and reporting of the HHS department financial condition. This position works with the FA&A units, Hennepin County's Office of Budget and Finance, and other departments to ensure the financial statements are accurate and cash assets are safeguarded.
Location and hours:
This position is remote. Remote workers may be required to come on-site 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30p.m. Based on business needs of this position, hires must live in or relocate to Minnesota.
In this position, you will:
Prepare and process accurate journal entries and other system transactions.
Perform routine reconciliation and analysis of the Hennepin County Representative Payee System.
Review and audit the use of gift cards, bus tokens, and petty cash to ensure proper documentation.
Research financial transactions and evaluate if any action is necessary (such as uncashed checks, duplicate bank transactions, etc.).
Provide excellent customer service and back-up assistance to coworkers and departments needing ad hoc support for routine communications and tasks.
Coordinate and research unclaimed property checks.
Need to have:
One of the following:
Four years or more of accounting activities experience.
Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, business administration with an emphasis in accounting, finance, and/or another related area.
Nice to have:
Experience working with:
All parts of the billing accounting cycle (cash receipts, accounts payable, month end journal entries, and bank reconciliation).
Complex bank reconciliation issues with the ability to communicate them.
Generally accepted accounting principles.
Advanced Microsoft Excel functions (VBA macros, pivot tables, xlookup).
Microsoft Office applications, PeopleSoft Financials, or a similar electronic financial system.
Knowledge of database management systems.
Ability to:
Handle multiple priorities with minimal direction.
Communicate well both verbally and in writing.
Meet deadlines and produce accurate work in a fast-paced office environment.
