Hennepin County Library (HCL) is seeking customer service-oriented individuals to fill current and future Associate Librarian openings. Associate Librarians are essential members of library staff who provide service to patrons in library buildings. They help patrons find materials and information, assist with community events, and sort and shelve materials. About these position types: These are a full-time or part-time, benefit earning positions.These positions are internally classified as an Associate Librarian.Click here to view the job classification specification. In these positions, you will:
· Provide friendly and approachable customer service in person, over the phone, and online to community members of all ages and abilities and from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
· Perform a variety of customer service and materials handling tasks, including assisting patrons with their accounts, collecting fines, and processing and shelving library materials.
· Assist with a broad range of requests for information, such as helping patrons find library materials or use library technology, and explain policies and procedures regarding patron accounts and services.
· Deliver programs, such as storytimes, group tours or orientation to the library; assist librarians with program planning and evaluation.
· Proactively maintain a welcoming and safe environment by managing patron behavior in the library and working with security staff as necessary to address challenges.
· Contribute to managing library spaces, collection maintenance, and coordination of volunteers to support programming and service needs.
Need to have:One of the following:
· Four years of customer service experience.
· Three and half years (42 months) of customer service experience and completion of the Office Specialist Pathway Training program.
· Two years of post-secondary education in library or information science, English, history, education, sociology, or a related field, and two years of customer service experience.
· Bachelor's degree in library or information science, English, history, education, sociology or a field related to the position.
Nice to have:
· Excellent customer service skills and a commitment to providing public service in a culturally responsive and respectful manner.
· Experience helping people with using information technology such as personal computers, digital devices, printers, scanners, photocopiers, audiovisual equipment, social media, and online resources.
· Experience in a lead role either at work, school or volunteering.
· HCL Library and/or Hennepin County experience.
