Are you a skilled communicator with a passion for internal engagement and public service? Hennepin County is seeking an Internal Communications Lead - Principal Communications Specialist to join the Communications Department.
This person will play an important role in creating and advancing strategic communications plans for countywide initiatives and internal departments including Human Resources and Information Technology and serve as a backup to the Communications Manager. Additionally, this individual will help lead and develop content for newsletters with an inclusive, employee-centric, and data-driven approach.

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed on-site at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 and remote as job duties require. Work hours will typically be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with occasional evenings and/or weekends. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

· Provide strategic communication and marketing support; provide work direction as needed; manage to deadline; while ensuring quality products and services; back up to manager.
· Develop and implement multifaceted communication plans; exhibit high degree of professionalism and lead partner intake meetings; evaluate data and results and recommend strategic direction and make recommendations for improvement.
· Maximize employee engagement, key messages, and communication approaches for various topics; ensure communication is in accordance with county policy guidelines and up to date with evolving trends.
· Write, edit, prepare, and produce a variety of communications; ensure consistency in messaging; information/communication messages, distribute via appropriate internal and external communication channels.
· Identify gaps in communications, develop/recommend strategies, implement solutions, and present results to management.
· Help build strong partnerships with Information Technology, Human Resources and other internal departments with regular internal comms needs for consulting, planning, and implementation.
· Provide communication assistance during emergencies; collaborate with other agencies on local, statewide, regional, and national emergencies.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Seven years or more of related professional experience in strategic communications supporting a broad range of programs, projects, and services.
o Two years or more of college and five years or more of related professional experience in strategic communications supporting a broad range of programs, projects, and services.
o Bachelors degree in journalism, English, communications, mass communications, marketing, media studies, graphic design, photojournalist, telecommunications, visual communications, public administration, and three years or more of related professional experience in strategic communications supporting a broad range of programs, projects, and services.

o Listening to clients and provide communication solutions.
o Using project management tools like Workfront and Microsoft Office Suite.
o Planning and creating messaging and content for multiple media, including newsletters, flyers, signage, annual reports, and websites in partnership with stakeholders and content creators.
o Independently managing complex assignments, tasks, and projects with flexibility while meeting deadlines.
o Responding to crisis situations.
