Description
Land Information and Tax Services Department seeks a strategy and communication intern to work in our Strategy & Support division. This person will help create facilitation plans, lead group conversations, write articles and other staff communications, and collaborate with internal partners. In addition, they’ll participate in professional development training and networking opportunities within our organization. As a department, we value collaboration, customer service and attention to detail. We’re looking for candidates who are self-motivated and eager to learn new skills. Location and hours:This position is remote. Remote workers may be required to come on-site 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. This internship will start in May 2024 and last through December 20, 2024. The intern will work approximately 15-20 hours per week. Work hours may be scheduled around a student’s class schedule, but must fall within the regular office hours of Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. While this position is designated as remote, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota.About this position type:This position is a non-benefit earning internship.This position is internally classified as an Intern II.Click here to view the job classification specification. · Build tools to support the management and processing of recall, audit, and removal petitions.
· Assist in synthesizing and sharing data.
· Spend one hour daily verifying records for the county’s vital records digitization project.
· Collaborate on and write short articles for the department intranet.
· Prepare, plan and co-lead facilitated conversations and other meetings.
· Take meeting notes and create project documentation.
· Work on small and large projects with internal business partners.
· Participate in professional development activities and trainings.
· Network with staff and expand your professional network.
Need to have:
· Current enrollment in the academic year 2023-2024 as a junior or senior in a bachelor’s degree program in journalism, strategic communications, government, political science, sociology, urban studies, or a closely related field.
Nice to have:
· Experience:
o Using Microsoft Office Suite or Google equivalent products.
o Writing for an organizational newsletter, school publication or college/university newspaper.
o Leading a school, work or personal project with multiple people.
· Interest in local government.
· Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
· Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
· Ability to:
o Work collaboratively.
o Take initiative and work independently.
o Meet weekly deadlines.
· Be familiar with fast-paced environments and able to handle multiple simultaneous tasks, working with supervisors to set priorities to meet deadlines.
