Description
We're hiring a Production Publishing Manager for Hennepin County Central Services in the IT Department. Under administrative direction, this position will lead and direct the work of Hennepin County Central Services document production and contract management related to printing. The Central Services area provides resources that support the everyday work of county staff as they deliver and improve services to residents:
· Document Production - This team produces color and black ink documents, flyers, brochures, booklets, book binding, business cards, envelopes, letterhead, large format printing and contour cutting
· Mail Center - This team manages the reception and distribution of mail and packages throughout the county.
· Courier Services - This team manages courier services for next-day pick-up and delivery to any location within the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

Work hours will be Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. About this position type:This is a full-time, benefit earning position. This position is internally classified as a Production Publishing ManagerClick here to view the job classification specification. In this position, you will:
· Supervise and direct employees in document production from all network and mainframe sources, and related operations, equipment maintenance, quality and production control, processing procedures, and associated tracking systems.
· Write, recommend approval, and administer Central Services contracts for services including typesetting, signs, envelopes, overload printing services, specialized printing, specialized stamps, equipment service contracts, print shop supplies, etc.
· Evaluate and establish annual budget and calculate charge-back fees for all services in order to cover the costs associated with the print shop staff, equipment and supplies; meet with vendor(s) and project market prices to establish internal costs and price levels for materials and services provided.
· Propose new document production services, plan strategy for meeting customer document production needs, negotiate project cost of exceptionally large printing orders and agree on timetables.
· Resolve problems with user departments/divisions including due dates, services, cost overruns or faulty products.
· Plan and review existing procedures, space utilization and inventory levels, consistent with future county/departmental document production or surplus property goals and programs.
· Assist in the selection and purchase negotiation of all print shop equipment including printers, copiers, folders, cutters, drills, shrink wrap machine, bindery equipment, etc.
· Act as the Central Services Manager in the absence of the Manager.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Four years or more years of experience in the production publishing industry, including at least two years or more of supervisory/lead work experience.
o Up to two years of education may be substituted for production publishing experience.
Nice to have:
· Experience:
o Leading a team.
o Using pre-press software.
o With network infrastructure.
· Ability to:
o Quickly analyze software, application, and network problems.
o Walk customers through troubleshooting and resolving an incident over the phone and in person.
o Multitask in a fast-paced environment with multiple points of entry (i.e., phone, self-service, and in person).
