Description
The Law, Safety, and Justice Operations (LSJO) department is seeking a Senior Accountant to provide financial support for it's operations. This will include performing routine and complex accounting, budgeting, and forecasting functions, as well as provide financial analysis.Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus. Remote employees may be required to come on-site 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. Based on the business needs for this position, individuals must reside in Minnesota or have approval to work from a state authorized by Hennepin County as approved for out-of-state remote work. Employees living out of state are responsible for all travel expenses when required to come on-site. In this position, you will:
· Serve as the liaison between department staff and the LSJO Finance and Budget Manager to coordinate efforts and help with budget related issues.
· Work with the LSJO Budget and Finance Manager and each of the divisions under LSJO to assist in the development of their budgets, including preparing recommendations for future budgeting cycles.
· Prepare documents per the Office of Budget and Finance (OBF) Budget instructions and work with the LSJO Budget and Finance Manager on any questions as it relates to budget.
· Monitor division staffing and spend rate as compared to budget, keep divisions and management informed on variances.
· Prepare and perform monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts and transactions; prepare and submit routine and complex journal entries and voucher correction requests in a timely manner to keep the general ledger accurate.
· Monitor, prepare, and process payables including POs and Direct Pay.
· Monitor, review, and approve PCard transactions and serve as the department’s PCard Coordinator.
· Perform monthly reconciliation, authorization, and review documentation of employees’ expenses.
· Perform lead activities for internal and external auditor requests, advise and participate in implementation of new accounting systems and procedures.
Need to have: One of the following:
· Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, business administration with an emphasis in accounting, or other specialty area related to the position and two or more years of professional experience in a specific functional area of accounting, auditing or financial management.
· Six or more years of professional experience in a specific functional area of accounting, auditing or financial management.
Nice to have:
· Experience:
o Monitoring, preparing, and processing payables including POs and Direct Pay.
o Using computer applications, including Word, Excel, and accounting system software.
o Performing complex reconciliation processes.
o Developing budgets.
o Preparing, analyzing, and/or reconciling month-end financial statements.
· Ability to:
o Communicate with all levels of management, both verbally and in writing.
o Make decisions based on analysis, experience and judgment in a timely manner.
o Establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external customers/partners.
o Meet deadlines and produce accurate work in a fast-paced office environment.
