Description
The Environment and Energy Department is seeking Scale House Attendants to process transactions at drop off facilities. These citizen drop-off facilities provide an opportunity for residents to properly manage household hazardous waste, recyclables, and problem materials like computers, televisions, and appliances. This position requires frequent interactions with customers who are members of the general public in an often fast-paced environment.

Location and hours:The primary work location for this position is either the Brooklyn Park Transfer Station, 8100 Jefferson Hwy Brooklyn Park, MN 55445 or South Hennepin Recycling and Problem Wate Drop-off Center 1400 W 96th Street Bloomington, MN 55431. Occasional work shifts may be required at all locations including the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC) facility at 505 6th Ave Minneapolis MN 55405. There is no public transportation to these buildings. A typical work shift is 8.5 hours from 8:45am to 5:15pm, with a minimum of 40 hours per pay period guaranteed for part-time (benefit-earning). Workdays are Tuesday through Saturday.
Based on current requirements, hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
In these positions, you will:
· Perform Point of Sale (POS) and non-financial transactions.
· Interact with customers in a face-to-face setting.
· Record all business transactions accurately and efficiently.
· Answer customer questions related to acceptable materials, pricing, facility hours, etc.
· Provide appropriate literature, brochures, guidance documents or other direction to customers seeking services.
· Access and utilize the county web site for the Green Disposal Guide to assist in answering citizens' questions.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o One or more full-time equivalent years of office clerical experience.
o Six months of office clerical experience and completion of the Office Specialist Pathway Training program.
o Note: Education may be substituted for experience on a semester (12 credits) basis.
· Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, and stand for extended periods of time, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Nice to have:
· Basic understanding of different waste streams including:
o Material types/categories in residential and commercial recycling program.
o Problem materials that are prohibited from disposal in the solid waste.
o Commonly used household chemicals.
· Beginner level user of Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and Word.
· Experience/familiarity:
o Using a call center system.
o Providing customer service by answering a variety of customer questions in person and by telephone
o Operating a cash drawer and preparing commercial bank deposits.
· Ability to:
o Perform cash transactions or process payments.
o Work in a high-volume customer service center.
o Record all commercial hauler and citizen transactions correctly in the county computer system using Paradigm software.
o Successfully perform routine and repetitive tasks.
o Follow detailed instructions.
o Work independently with minimal direction.
